The Winning Poker Network (WPN) has announced a new High Five Series that begins on Halloween, and a format change to its popular The Beast rake race.
The High Five Tournament Series will run for five days from October 31 thru November 4. It consists of five events that will pay out at least $1.5 million in guaranteed prize money.
The operative word in the series is “high” as the festival is marketed toward poker players who make a habit of smoking marijuana. That doesn’t mean you have to get high to participate in the High Five Series, but be forewarned that some of your tablemates may have altered states of consciousness while playing.
As a tribute to pot smokers, the High Five Series will take a break at 4:20 each day of the festival. Also, the guaranteed prize pool for the featured Main Event on Nov. 4 at 1:00 p.m. ET is $420,000.
As most already know, “420” is a sort of code or slang for consuming marijuana. Its origins date back more than four decades to a group of high school stoners in California who met and got high at 4:20 every day.
While there will undoubtedly be plenty of players reloading their pipes and bongs during the High Five Series, WPN is getting into the act by offering a 50% Reload Bonus up to $300 to commemorate the festival. That Reload Bonus is available just before the start of the series, from Oct. 27-30.
The Beast Weekly Becomes The Beast Daily
WPN’s popular weekly points race known as The Beast will undergo a format change to a daily leaderboard race for the month of November. The actual dates of the transition to The Beast Daily are November 3 thru December 1.
Cash prizes up to $500 will be up for grabs every day of The Beast Daily that runs from 00:00 ET to 23:59 ET. There are four separate payout tiers of $25, $50, $200 and $500 available and players may qualify for one of those tiers depending upon rake generated.
Along with cash prizes of The Beast, WPN players on Americas Cardroom and Black Chip Poker will also be awarded Super Satellite tickets worth $27.50. WPN has estimated that 130 players will win cash in The Beast every day, while another 150 players will be on the receiving end of Super Satellite tickets.
Live Cage Satellites
The $27.50 Super Satellite tickets are to be used in a nightly tournament held at 7:00 p.m. ET. Winners will advance to a $630 The Beast & Sit ‘n Crush Live Cage Satellite held Sundays at 6:00 p.m. ET. At least three $8,340 packages for the Live Cage will be won in the special Sunday event.
Running now thru November 9, players can earn twice as many The Beast points by playing Six Plus Hold’em cash games. That’s the relatively new poker variant that uses a 36-card deck, removing the cards valued deuce thru five.
It’s also worth pointing out to new players that The Beast progressive points race, whether Daily or Weekly, is free to enter. Simply play poker to earn points and climb your way up the leaderboard.
