WPN $5 Million GTD Venom Down to 20 Players for Day 3 Action

Venom Poker Tournament

The Winning Poker Network’s massive multi-day Venom tournament saw Day 2 action reduce the field from 374 players down to 20 with the winner to get $1,050,559.

It’s the largest online poker tournament ever hosted by a US-friendly poker site – either before or after Black Friday in 2011. Day 3 is set to resume on Tuesday, July 23 at 1:00 p.m. ET at WPN flagship poker rooms Black Chip Poker and Americas Cardroom. Players can also participate via True Poker, which is another skin on the network.

Day 2 went on for 12 hours and saw some top players eliminated. Entering Day 2 as chip leader was ACR pro Thomas “HolyCannuli” Cannuli, but his large chip stack is now in the hands of other players as Tom finished 105th for $10,850.25. Also biting the dust was Alex “OutFoxenYou” Foxen, as the top player on the Global Poker Index landed in 143rd place for $9,573.75.

Cannuli and Foxen were among 2,553 entrants who paid the $2,500 + $150 buy-in over three starting flights to create a whopping $6,382,500 prize pool. Actually, a large number of those entrants grabbed a Venom seat for far less thanks to tons of step tournaments and satellites hosted by Black Chip Poker and Americas Cardroom in a lead up to Day 1A and thru Day 1C.

Venom II Gets Bigger

If you missed out on the first Venom tournament, there’s no reason to make the same mistake for the next one. A 100% up to $1,000 Welcome Bonus awaits first-time depositors if you are using our bonus code for Black Chip Poker. Make that first deposit with one of more than 60 accepted cryptocurrencies and that Welcome Bonus gets boosted to 200% up to $1,000!

The satellites and step tournaments will also be available for the next Venom that’s set to kick off four months from now. Due to the success of the current $5 million GTD Venom that amassed a $6.3 million prize pool, the second running of Venom will be even larger at $6 million guaranteed.

There will be four Day 1s in the $6 million GTD Venom that starts with Day 1A on Wednesday, November 27 at 11:00 a.m. ET. Here’s the full schedule of Venom #2:

  • Day 1A – Wednesday, November 27 @ 11:00 a.m.
  • Day 1B – Sunday, December 1 @ 11:00 a.m.
  • Day 1C – Wednesday, December 4 @ 9:00 a.m.
  • Day 1D – Sunday, December 8 @ 11:00 a.m.
  • Day 2 – Monday, December 9 @ 1:00 p.m.
  • Day 3 – Tuesday, December 10 @ 1:00 p.m.
  • Day 4 – Wednesday, December 11 @ 5:00 p.m.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the prize pool surpass $7 million considering the turnout at Venom #1. Player traffic tends to increase in the colder months also.

Big Prize Money

But let’s get back to the tournament at hand, the $5 million GTD Venom that will play down to eight players on July 23 before reconvening for the final table at 5:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 24. The chip leader is “GinkgoBiloba” with 129,132,408, and on his heels is “IGotMilkBaby” with a chip stack of 115,427,112.

While that million-dollar first place prize is the goal of all 20 players remaining, even coming close to winning will result in huge scores. Take a look at the payouts reserved for each slot of the final table:

Position Prize
1st $1,050,559.50
2nd $760,794.00
3rd $553,362.75
4th $370,823.25
5th $238,067.25
6th $171,051.00
7th $110,417.25
8th $73,398.75

That’s some big-time cash from a $2,650 buy-in. However, the Venom allowed multiple re-entries and the Biggest Stack Option, making it highly likely that at least a few of the final tablists will have invested more than a single buy-in.
