Day 1B of the $5 million GTD Venom tournament at the Winning Poker Network (WPN) is in the books and a big overlay may be ahead depending on Day 1C action.
WPN is home to top skins such as Black Chip Poker and Americas Cardroom where 785 entrants on Day 1A and 439 entrants on Day 1B competed in the massive Venom event that guarantees $1 million to the winner. There is still time to enter on Day 1C that gets underway on Sunday, July 21 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Whether the $5 million guarantee will be reached remains a big question mark at this point. The 1,224 entrants who bought in for $2,500 + $150 have combined to create prize money of $3,060,000 thus far (not including the $150 fee).
As of this writing, there are 69 players registered for Day 1C, bringing the totals to 1,293 entrants and $3,232,500 in paid buy-ins. We’re looking at a value-packed overlay unless the number of entrants increases considerably in the next few days.
How Many More Players Will Enter?
It’s difficult to gauge what kind of turnout can be expected on Day 1C. There’s a wide variety of opportunities for players to still win seats to the Venom for far less than the buy-in. Satellites and step tournaments – including Step 1 freerolls – have been running for weeks and will continue right up until the final Day 1 flight next Sunday.

Another dimension to the Venom, which is the largest online poker tournament ever offered by a US-friendly site, is that there are unlimited re-entries and that players can avail themselves of the Biggest Stack Option. In other words, enter as many times as you like and take your biggest stack forward to Day 2, while sacrificing your smaller stack or stacks.
The Biggest Stack Option is a feature that typically benefits high rollers who don’t blink an eye at $2,500 buy-ins. However, with all the different ways that Black Chip Poker allows players to win a Venom seat, it’s likely that some players of more modest means have collected multiple entries as well.
Wait and See Mode
Yet another factor to consider as to whether a generous overlay may be in the making is the propensity of many players to wait until the final flight of big events before entering. We’ve seen it time and again at the World Series of Poker Main Event as Day 1C is typically the largest in terms of number of entrants in comparison to Days 1A and 1B.
While the Venom certainly doesn’t carry the same prestige as the WSOP Main Event, there is plenty of curiosity among online poker players regarding the Venom and its lofty $5 million guarantee. It’s also the first multi-day tournament in the history of Black Chip Poker and WPN, made possible by a recent software update that affords a sleek and professional poker-playing experience.
There were 117 players who advanced to Day 2 from Day 1A and another 52 survivors from Day 1B who will progress to Day 2 action on Monday, July 22. That’s 169 players so far who are aiming to claim some of the $5 million in guaranteed prize money.
Bonuses for All Depositors
Black Chip Poker is offering depositing players a bonus during Venom action. For existing players, it’s a 50% up to $500 Reload Bonus thru July 24. Make sure to use “VENOM” as the bonus code.
For first-time depositors, the bonus is much more lucrative at 100% up to $1,000, plus 20 days of free cash up to $50, and free tickets to up to four New Depositor Freerolls. For an even better deal, make that first deposit in any one of more than 60 cryptocurrencies accepted at Black Chip Poker and get a 200% bonus up to $1,000.
There’s still enough time for new depositors to win a Venom seat via satellites or step tournaments. A deep run in the tournament will certainly result in a big score, and one player will walk away a millionaire!
